Cherry Hall
Cherry has a BA (Hons) in Psycho/Social Studies from East London University and worked with special needs children for 10 years until early 2010 where she received much recognition and encouragement with her art. Becoming an artist later in life Cherry is mostly self taught. She has attended artist summer schools at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design, West Dean College in Chichester and City Lite in London.
Cherry’s work is abstract expressionism and she loves to express her emotions and feelings and spirituality into her work using mixed media depending on what she wants to project into her artwork – more recently using collage and textiles that have whispers of her childhood. She loves solitude, city lights, trees and changing seasons and the rhythm of the sea.
Cherry’s essex girl paintings are her personal take on being an essex girl - expressing her passions for the countryside and the changing seasons and being nurtured by mother nature and the beauty all around us. The essex girl paintings are sometimes humorous, sometimes sad - they are about acceptance of oneself as being less than perfect, and being comfortable in your own skin. The idea of not having an inner or outer image of perfection and being more relaxed and easy on oneself – especially with the media images that few can or want to live up too.
